Ricky Ponting exits the game as a player who has captivated audiences for almost two decades. As he announces his retirement he will complete his career at the very same ground that he made his debut all the way back in 1995, Ponting is leaving the game the way he has conducted his career, on his terms.

As a captain and as a batsman, Ricky Ponting can lay claim to being the greatest player of his generation. His ruthless attitudes towards opposition bowling attacks saw him amass an incredible 6 double centuries, 41 test centuries and the second most amount of test runs in history, 13,366. Three of those double centuries came in 2003, perhaps his best calendar year when he amassed an incredible 1503 runs at an average of 100.20. He finishes his career with 168 test matches to his name, equal with the great Steve Waugh as Australia’s most capped Test player.
